The Department of Inorganic Chemistry of College of Chemical Engineering was founded in 2000 on the basis of inorganic chemistry. At present, the department has 16 faculty and staff members, including 6 professors, 8 associate professors and 2 lecturers, and 10 of them have doctorate degrees. In addition, there are more than 20 postgraduates and doctoral students now.

All the faculty members of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, based on their own duties, have made excellent achievements in education reform such as curriculum construction in these years. Among them, University Chemistry and Basic Chemistry have been approved as the national first-class online open courses and the first-class online and offline hybrid courses, respectively. Inorganic Chemistry has been approved as Hunan first-class online open courses (currently applying for national first-class courses). Three teachers have won the first prize of provincial teaching competition and the title of provincial teaching expert. Seven teachers have won the prize in the “Thirty Best” teaching competition of Central South University.

Based on the application-oriented basic research, the Department of Inorganic Chemistry always adheres to the cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research topics, the combination of basic and applied research contents and the openness of research methods. After years of development, stable research fields such as coordination chemistry, organometallic chemistry, cluster chemistry, energetic materials and solid waste resource utilization have been formed. The teachers in the department undertook a number of scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Natural Science Foundation of Hunan Province and the Science and Technology Plan Project of Hunan Province, and carried out some university-enterprise cooperation projects such as the industrialization of industrial solid waste resource management, the industrialization of precious and rare metal mining technology, and the development and industrialization of semiconductor optoelectronic materials technology. Moreover, the department has won one national teaching and research achievement award, more than 10 provincial and ministerial science and technology and teaching achievement awards, obtained 6 invention patents and published more than 260 scientific research and teaching papers.
