The Analytical Chemistry Department at College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Central South University now has 21 teachers, including 11 full professors and 10 associate professors. Among the professors, four are supported by the outstanding youth fund of Hunan Natural Science Foundation.

The discipline of analytical chemistry is one of the advantageous disciplines in Central South University with a long history. It was approved by the State Council as one of the first master program in China in 1980, and was granted the right to confer doctor's degree in 2005. At present, there are three research teams in the Department of analytical chemistry. The main team leaders and research directions are as follows:

(1) The biosensing research team, led by Prof. Minghui Yang, focuses on the interdisciplinary development of chemistry and medicine, and is committed to developing highly sensitive and highly specific biosensor technology to detect disease markers in body fluids, including protein markers, enzymes, circulating tumor cells, DNA, miRNA and small molecular substances. With the precise detection of these biomarkers, it can provide an important basis for early diagnosis and treatment of different diseases, such as tumor, neurodegenerative diseases and so to.

(2) Chemometrics and intelligent instruments research team, led by Prof. Hongmei Lu, focuses on the state-of-the-art methods in chemometrics and analytical chemistry. Researchers of this team foster cutting-edge discoveries and provide methods for solving the national bottleneck problems, including novel protocols for sample pretreatment, data mining pipelines for omics, deep-learning-based methods for structure elucidation, intelligent instruments, advanced chemometric methods, the development of sophisticated chemometrics software and etc.

(3)Drug and food molecule science research team, led by Prof. Xiaoqing Chen, is committed to developing new methods and technologies about synthesis, separation and analysis in drug and food area. The research interest includes chromatography, Surface Enhanced Raman (SERS) substrate design as well as SERS detection, fluorescence and electrochemical analysis, food source biological small molecule structure-activity relationship research, etc.
